Tips For Cleaning Your Hat
Cleaning your hat can be a delicate task. Whether you need to give it a light cleaning to refresh and revamp your Faire Broderie cap or you literally wear your hat every day and you would put it through the washing machine if you could, we've got the tips, tricks, and hacks for keeping your hat looking brand new and squeaky clean. We are sharing a few hat cleaning options and a few stain removing remedies. Keep on reading folks.
1. Hat brush
Use a hat brush to help remove dust and dirt from the surface of your hat. For best practice, gently brush the hat counterclockwise, starting at the front and working your way around.
Pro tip: Always brush in the same direction consistently.
2. Lint roller
A good rule of thumb always keep a lint roller on hand to remove lint, hair, and dust. For all those out there that have a wardrobe primarily consisting of black, you know what I'm talking about. Lint rollers save lives. Put that on a t-shirt. If you aren't that well prepared, you can use a piece of tape to remove that stubborn dust and debris your hat might collect over time. For the tape option, just wrap the tape around your hand, sticky side out and gently sweep and dab across the surface of your hat.
3. Cloth
Use a dry, clean cloth to brush dried dirt, dust and any other debris off your hat. Dried dirt may flake off easily as you wipe it. For stubborn dust, wet the cloth so it's moist, but not too saturated and continue to wipe your hat.
If you've got messy kiddos on your hands or you are just spill prone, we've got just what you're looking for when it comes to hat stain removal. You can just use an eraser or makeup sponge to remove any stains. Gently dab or smudge the stain.
Pro tip: Don't ever rub your stains. That just allows the stain to set in deeper and makes it harder for removal.
4. Hand Wash
The last three tips were for cleaning small problem areas but if you got a hat that has been through rough times, this is the tip for you.
Fill a clean sink or bucket with warm water and a tablespoon of laundry detergent. Submerge your hat into the water and let the hat soak up for about 2-3 hours. Rinse off all the soap with warm water. Pat down with a towel to get rid of excess moisture. And finally let it air dry.
Hand-washing is really the best method to retain both the color and shape of the hat.
Don’t put caps into the laundry — either the washer or dryer.
I pride myself on the quality of Faire Broderie hats, once they leave my hands, it's now in yours to take good care of them. I hope this blog post informs you and helps you to keep your hats looking brand new!
